The Helsinki Morrisers are a thoroughly mixed(up)Morris Dance side started in 1995 in downtown Annankatu. The first performance took place on a sunny summer evening at the British Embassy, from where the sycamore logo comes. Since 1996 we have been active members of the Arctic Morris Association along with Eken Morris from Stockholm. 2005 saw the first Estonian participation with an Ale in Tallin including Honk Kong Morris joining the two Baltic sides. Alternating visits between Helsinki and Stockholm continue, with the Finns visiting the Swedes in June 2006. For practices we continue to appreciate the hospitality of the Finnish-British Society (now downtown in Frederikinkatu 20 - p.+3589 68770240) - first Fridays at 6 and and third Sundays afternoon. Over the years local venues have included Tavastia Klubi, Helsinki Railway Station, Kallio Flower Festival, Kaustinen and Rääkylä Music Festivals, and more such as on the ice or Morris on Ice video Performing at Kuopio Dance Festival summer 2000 Current styles include a mix of Border(Shropshire Bedlams), Molly(Ousewash and Gog Magog) and Helsinki traditions.
